No. 5: 49ers ‘Revenge Tour 2.0’ begins early with Week 2 matchup vs. Eagles

It’s obviously ideal to win every game, especially within the division. However, this one-and-done NFC tussle against the Philadelphia Eagles is extremely important for the 49ers to win.

We witnessed it in 2019 when the Niners defeated the Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints to win the NFC, receive a bye week, and home-field advantage in the postseason. All three teams were tied with a 13-3 record, but San Francisco had the head-to-head edge on both teams.

Last year’s Philly-49ers game didn’t mean much in the standings, but it should’ve been a game San Francisco didn’t want to lose.

Led by a pick-six from Eagles linebacker Alex Singleton, the 2017 Super Bowl Champs snagged a win in Levi’s Stadium sending the Niners season into turmoil.

This certainly won’t be an easy game for the 49ers. But you can bet they’ve had this game circled on the calendar for a while.

Philly might not be considered a playoff team this year however, in a weak NFC East there’s a chance these teams meet each other in late January. So winning this game could make or break a home playoff date.
