A report from ESPN suggests there’s a good chance 49ers fans will be able to attend a full-capacity Levi’s Stadium this upcoming season.

It’s not official yet. But signs are pointing in the right direction San Francisco 49ers fans may be able to get back into Levi’s Stadium in full force as soon as this upcoming season.

Last year, in light of the pandemic and Santa Clara County’s strict restrictions on public gatherings, Levi’s Stadium became one of many venues not allowing the public to attend any games, whereas other stadiums in other jurisdictions had other varying rules and regulations, typically limiting and distancing fans in attendance.

Even so, Levi’s Stadium was ranked as one of the safest possible venues last year if fans had been allowed to attend in spite of the global pandemic.

Despite that ranking, no fans attended the abbreviated season at the Niners’ home venue, and the team eventually had to temporarily relocate late in the year to the Arizona Cardinals’ State Farm Stadium for the final three home games on its schedule.

As rough as that was, it’s looking more and more like fans will be able to return to Levi’s Stadium this season.

A report from ESPN’s Nick Wagoner stated the 49ers are fully preparing to have a 100-percent capacity at their home site this upcoming year, and the franchise has already started selling both single-game and season tickets to the fans:

Other Bay Area teams, in light of Gov. Gavin Newsom saying last March he was anticipating fans returning to games for the San Francisco Giants, Golden State Warriors and Oakland Athletics, have already opened up their home venues to limited seating.

But the true obstacle might not be California, rather Santa Clara County, which has had some of the strictest protocols and regulations within the state.

An observation might be what the nearby San Jose Sharks, playing at the nearby SAP Center in downtown San Jose, do over the rest of the NHL season. Like the other Bay Area teams, the Sharks have allowed limited-capacity seating.

Perhaps as the number of vaccinated people within the state grows, the county will continue to ease its restrictions on the number of fans in attendance for sporting events.

This would be great news, potentially, for Niners fans who weren’t able to see any home games whatsoever last year.

And it sure was weird to see Levi’s Stadium completely empty during games, and not just in reference to the halfway-filled venue it was during the down years not long ago.
