SF 49ers bubble watch: Special Teams

Lock: Robbie Gould, Taybor Pepper, Mitch Wishnowsky

Strong Bubble: None

Weak Bubble: None

Long Shot: None

There’s no drama here.

Veteran kicker Robbie Gould reworked his contract during the offseason, per Over the Cap, which freed up additional option years while turning his 2021 and 2022 contract hits into fully guaranteed money worth a net total of $5.1 million.

Long-snapper Taybor Pepper, who became something of an SF 49ers cult hero late last year, also inked a two-year deal worth just north of $2 million.

Meanwhile, punter Mitch Wishnowsky is still on his rookie contract. None of these three players are going anywhere, and the Niners didn’t even bother to bring aboard one of those “safety” kickers or punters to guard against one of the veterans potentially injuring themselves in a would-be preseason.

Sometimes it’s good to be nothing more than a special teams specialist.
