49ers Round 2 Target No. 3: Wide Receiver Kadarius Toney, Florida

If we’re on the subject of wide receivers who have plenty of upside but lack the elite-level route-running capability, it would be worth tossing in Florida wide receiver Kadarius Toney into the mix of day-two pass-catchers who could be on the 49ers radar.

Toney has a few advantages over Elijah Moore that could potentially be worth exploring. For starters, at 6-foot-0 and 193 pounds, Toney has the size edge over Moore and also displayed some great physicality, breaking 43 tackles over his 120 career catches for the Gators. And Toney is just as elusive and slippery with the ball in his hands, too, potentially making for another candidate who can create the ever-so-important yards after the catch.

Unlike Moore, though, Toney was a bit of a one-hit wonder at the college level, recording 984 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2020 after never hitting 300 receiving yards in any of his previous three seasons at Florida.

That said, Toney could serve as a bigger slot option who plays with some physicality yet not at the expense of sacrificing elusiveness and shiftiness.

Toney likely isn’t going to fall too deep into Round 2, so a team like the Niners might have to hope he falls into the middle of the round or potentially explore a trade-up to ensure he winds up being the pick.
