SF 49ers: Day One | Round One

Since Mac Jones seems to be head coach Kyle Shanahan’s guy, let’s kick off this trade-heavy mock draft with another monstrous trade.

After moving from No. 12 to No. 3, the SF 49ers decide to get more draft capital in the 2021 draft by trading with the Carolina Panthers.

San Francisco sends the No. 3 pick and their 155th, 180th, and 194th to Carolina in exchange for the No. 8 pick, the No. 39 pick, the 73rd pick, and Carolina’s Round 1 pick in 2022.

Now that the SF 49ers have the No. 8 pick in the draft, they use that selection to get their quarterback of the future in Jones.

Shanahan attended Jones’ pro day, and it appears as if Jones is who he wanted to be the new quarterback. Moving up to No. 3 seemed to be a huge jump to get Jones, but by moving back and picking up more draft assets in this draft, the Niners can still get their guy and bring in more talent.

After the big trade to move back in the draft, San Francisco uses some of that draft capital to get another pick in the first round.

The SF 49ers send their 39th and 102nd pick in the 2021 draft as well as the first-round pick they acquired from the Panthers in exchange for the 20th pick in the 2021 draft from the Chicago Bears.

With that pick, the 49ers add some help to their secondary and bring in Trevon Moehrig, the safety from TCU.

Since cornerback Richard Sherman is on his way out of California, some help is needed in the secondary. Moehrig is that help. With multiple interceptions and an eagerness to get up and help in run support, Moehrig has developed into one of the best safeties in college football. If he can continue his growth he could be one of the best in the NFL.

A couple more trades with teams from Los Angeles has the SF 49ers using all of their picks inside the top 117 picks.

Firstly, the Los Angeles Chargers come calling and take the 43rd and 230th picks in exchange for the 47th and 77th pick. Not settling at that, the Niners then trade back again with the Los Angeles Rams. San Francisco takes the 57th and 88th picks and sends the 47th and 172nd picks to the Rams.

San Francisco now has a total of seven picks inside the top 120.
