NFC West moves in Round 2 of 2021 NFL Draft

All four NFC West teams have their respective picks in Round 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft, so things could get a bit more interesting here as far as the divisional rivalries go.

The 49ers are still selecting first in the round, however. So, barring a trade-up from one of the other teams, general manager John Lynch will still get the first call on prospects to add to the division.

Round 2, Pick No. 43 Overall: 49ers select cornerback Eric Stokes, Georgia

42. . Cornerback. San Francisco 49ers. Eric Stokes. 43. player

If it weren’t for quarterback needs, the Niners would strongly be looking at first-round cornerbacks, largely to replace Richard Sherman now and eventually to replace on-roster corners like Jason Verrett and K’Waun Williams, who are back solely on one-year deals.

Georgia cornerback Eric Stokes doesn’t have the first-round pedigree like Patrick Surtain II or Jaycee Horn. But Stokes is a promising zone-style corner who flashed some ballhawk abilities last year with four interceptions.

Even if it takes a year for Stokes to fully develop, the second-round investment would be worth it at No. 43.

Round 2, Pick No. 49 Overall: Cardinals select wide receiver Kadarius Toney, Florida

Wide Receiver. Arizona Cardinals. Kadarius Toney. 49. player. 32.

The Cardinals are still seeking a long-term replacement for the future Hall of Fame wide receiver, Larry Fitzgerald, despite making more than a handful of NFL Draft additions at the position for the last few years.

Former Cincinnati Bengals wideout A.J. Green is in town, but only on a one-year deal. And even if it was longer, one should expect Arizona to take full advantage of this deep receiving class.

One name to watch is Florida wide receiver Kadarius Toney, who is looking like a lock for Round 2 with some excellent collegiate production and a skill set that should benefit both Kyler Murray and head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

Round 2, Pick No. 56 Overall: Seahawks select safety Jevon Holland, Oregon

. Safety. Seattle Seahawks. Jevon Holland. 56. player. 36

Oh, hi, Seattle. Nice to finally see you.

The Seahawks find themselves entering the 2021 NFL Draft with just three picks, and only one of them — Round 2 — falls on the first two days. How does general manager John Schneider have a job again?

Each one of those selections needs to be a hit, and there’s a need to replicate the once-daunting “Legion of Boom” days. Particularly after Seattle was among the league’s worst in pass yards allowed.

Oregon safety Jevon Holland can play a true center-field role. The Canadian-born Duck could easily pair with the player the Seahawks gave up a first-round selection for, Jamal Adams, locking down the back end of their defense in a much-needed way.

Round 2, Pick No. 57 Overall: Rams select linebacker Jamin Davis, Kentucky

. Linebacker. Los Angeles Rams. Jamin Davis. 57. player. 51

The Rams are also on the clock after spending time dealing away first-round picks. And following an offseason where they had to shed salary-cap space, finding some quality rookies on cheap initial contracts is a must.

One of Los Angeles’ worst units last season was at linebacker, and someone who could play both coverage and defend against the run would be a must. There are other big needs, too, but the lack of depth in the 2021 NFL Draft at linebacker is something general manager Les Snead needs to account for.

Kentucky linebacker Jamin Davis, while somewhat inexperienced, is a quality day-two prospect with good speed, agility and pursuit skills. His 6-foot-4 frame helps qualify him as a pass-disruptor, which is good, but the Rams will appreciate his sideline-to-sideline defensive skills.
