Round 5, Pick No. 155 Overall: 49ers select tight end Kenny Yeboah, Ole Miss

A tight end can be a first-year quarterback’s best friend, and the 49ers already have one in place with the All-Pro, George Kittle.

There’s little doubting Kittle and Justin Fields could develop a tremendous rapport, yet this doesn’t eliminate the seemingly endless search Kyle Shanahan and Co. have had for a complementary No. 2 tight end to support Kittle. Last year’s efforts, adding Charlie Woerner and Jordan Reed, didn’t exactly pan out fully, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see the Niners look for another option again on day three of this year’s NFL Draft.

If San Francisco is looking for a sleeper, it could do worse than target Ole Miss’ Kenny Yeboah, who had a college career-best 24 receptions for 524 yards and six touchdowns after transferring over from Temple in 2020.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound prospect is more of a move tight end, not necessarily of the build to be an exceptional blocker at the pro level. What he does have, however, is good speed and separation abilities, which make for a good deal of “yards after the catch” potential.

Few teams are defensively equipped well enough to handle multiple receiving threats at tight end, meaning Fields would have himself a field day (pun intended) if players like Kittle and Yeboah were running routes and consistently getting open.
