NFL Draft Pick No. 7: Ja’Marr Chase, Wide Receiver, LSU

Detroit falls into a very strong position here, as it can take both the best player available and help fill a position of need in the process.

The team is likely to give quarterback Jared Goff at least one season before they make a decision at quarterback, and with wideouts Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay leaving in free agency the Lions need a new No. 1 receiver.

LSU’s Ja’Marr Chase wowed people with a massive 2019 season with 84 catches for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns. Chase elected to opt out of the 2020 season and prepare for the NFL and showed recruiters that he kept himself in top condition with a big pro day.

Chase is a phenomenal route runner, who combined with his speed, sees the routes break open with ease. He was easily the best receiver in college football in 2019 and has the discipline to succeed given he kept himself in prime condition in 2020 despite opting out.
