NFL Draft Pick No. 11: Mac Jones, Quarterback, Alabama

So this is where Mac Jones lands. While I would still argue this is an overreach, quarterbacks are always overdrafted in the NFL.

Trading up isn’t usually a New England Patriots tradition in the NFL Draft, but Cam Newton is only a placeholder and the team needs to ensure nobody leapfrogs them. Head coach Bill Belichick personally scouted Jones on his pro day, and he looks like he would fit right into the Patriots system.

Jones threw for 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns, four interceptions and at a 77.4 percent completion rate. He isn’t the most athletic or powerful quarterback in the draft, but he’s a strong locker room leader who’s very good at protecting the ball.

Jones could go as high as No. 3 overall to the 49ers given the importance of quarterback, so where he falls is an interesting question. I think he’ll be the fifth quarterback off the board.
