NFL Draft Pick No. 9: Patrick Surtain II, Cornerback, Alabama

Atlanta is essentially the team that could cause the NFL Draft to take one of several different positions. The Falcons could serve to upgrade the defense or even take a successor to quarterback Matt Ryan.

Trading down from No. 4, there’s still no defensive lineman worth taking in the top 10. Mac Jones doesn’t seem like good value, but why not another Alabama prospect?

Patrick Surtain II played on an island at times and was able to still play well against tough receiver prospects, recording nine pass deflections and an interception returned for a touchdown.

While Horn is more athletic, Surtain has more versatility as a result of his role in the Alabama defense. He’s played outside, nickel and even in safety roles and could be used wherever Atlanta needs him to be.
