Round 3, Pick No. 102 Overall (Compensatory): 49ers select tight end Kenny Yeboah, Ole Miss

Initially, the Niners’ trade up to No. 3 overall was thought to include their third-round compensatory selection in 2021, but later reports told it was the 2022 comp pick instead.

Kyle Shanahan has spent some effort trying to bulk up the tight end depth chart behind the All-Pro, George Kittle, which included last year’s additions of Charlie Woerner and Jordan Reed. With neither of those two working out exceptionally well in 2020, it wouldn’t be shocking at all to see Shanahan turn his attention once again to the NFL Draft to bolster that depth.

While the 2021 tight end class isn’t overly impressive, Ole Miss’ Kenny Yeboah combines an intriguing mix of size and strength useful for an offense looking to line him up in various points on the field.

Yeboah performed well after transferring over from Temple, picking up 524 receiving yards and working as a legitimate red-zone threat, which certainly would boost the 49ers offense.

And for those gauging interest, the Niners were on hand for Yeboah’s pro day. Make of that what you will.

With this selection, San Francisco would hope its depth behind Kittle would be complete for the long term.
