49ers Cornerback Target No. 4: Paulson Adebo, Stanford

One always has to take into consideration John Lynch looks to his alma mater, Stanford, for some possible draft-day additions.

After 2019, cornerback Paulson Adebo had himself in the discussion to be a potential first-round pick in the 2021 draft, but his decision to sit out last year in the wake of the global pandemic now means Adebo is slotted as a third-round prospect at best.

Adebo had a combined eight interceptions his first two collegiate years between 2018 and 2019, and it’s likely that trend would have continued had he played into 2020.

So there are going to be concerns with how well Adebo will acclimate to life at the NFL level, and there have been knocks against his inconsistency even at the collegiate level.

That said, Adebo’s 6-foot-1, 192-pound frame looks to be the perfect fit for a boundary-type cornerback in a zone-style scheme, and there would be some small comfort with the 49ers not necessarily needing to rush the former Cardinal into a starting situation right away.

If the Niners could wait for Adebo in Round 4, great. But with a compensatory pick still available late in the third round, it wouldn’t be overly shocking if Lynch eyes Adebo as the Niners’ third player selected.
