49ers Round 2 Pick, No. 43 Overall: EDGE Joseph Ossai, Texas

A dominant pass rush was one of the most crucial parts of the Niners’ 2019 Super Bowl run. Although San Francisco already reloaded its pass rush in free agency by signing Samson Ebukam, it would continue to stack the pass rush by drafting Joseph Ossai from Texas.

Ossai is one of the most naturally talented pass-rushers in this draft. Originally from Nigeria, Ossai played both linebacker and defensive end at Texas, shining most as a pass-rusher. It is unclear whether Ossai would be a better fit as a linebacker or defensive end, but the modern NFL covets any player who can get to the quarterback regardless of size or scheme fit, and Ossai has certainly shown the ability to do that, recording three sacks in one game against Oklahoma State last season.

Ossai would be a great fit for San Francisco, who with a hopefully healthy Nick Bosa and Dee Ford, would not need the rookie to produce immediately. At least not with those two veterans, combined with Ebukam, in the mix.

This will give Ossai time to develop as an NFL player, and he is certainly someone who can contribute to the Niners as a pass-rusher for years to come.
