49ers: 5 Canadian sleeper prospects to target in 2021 NFL Draft
49ers Target No. 4: Alaric Jackson won’t immediately become a starter, but he could be the definition of a sleeper
With the 49ers re-signing left tackle Trent Williams and signing free-agent center Alex Mack, they’ve certainly given themselves plenty of flexibility along the offensive line to draft an O-lineman in later rounds to beef up the depth.
Windsor, Ontario native, and Iowa Hawkeye offensive lineman Alaric Jackson fits the bill.
And hey, the Niners have success taking a Hawkeye late in the draft. CC: George Kittle.
Jackson gave an interesting perspective on how he wants his NFL career to begin in a video conference during Iowa’s pro day:
"“I’m trying to make my own path for the most part (and) just do what’s best for me, honestly.” he said. “It’s not my idea to go to a top team with Tom Brady and (be) in a Super Bowl right away. “I want to do that as well but in my own footsteps.”"
This was in reference to former teammate and offensive lineman Tristian Wirfs immediately becoming a starter with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Well, no worries here, Jackson. The Niners don’t have Tom Brady, and there’s a good chance they won’t win the Super Bowl right away, too.
Daniel Jeremiah figures Jackson needs more time to develop. With a couple of the league’s best veterans on the O-line, Jackson can take the whole 2021 season to develop if he needs.
He’d be a safe pick on day three with lots of potential for the future.
