49ers: 5 Canadian sleeper prospects to target in 2021 NFL Draft
49ers Target No. 5: With Richard Sherman leaving, there’s a vacancy defensive back Jevon Holland can fill
University of Oregon defensive back Jevon Holland opted out of the 2020 season to declare for the NFL Draft. The 49ers will have a vacancy or two he can easily fill, whether it’s for this year or down the road.
Before deciding to sit the year, Holland was considered the top Canadian prospect. Missing a season might’ve pushed his stock down a bit, but it could make it easier for the Niners to take him on either day two or three.
Here’s what Daniel Jeremiah had to say on the Coquitlam, B.C. native:
"As a nickel, as a safety, can do a lot of things. I think he’s one of the three or four best safeties in this draft class. Didn’t get a chance to see him this year, but somebody that’s well thought of around the league. Takes good angles, he’s a really good tackler, and he’s got good ball skills. He reminded me of a little bit bigger version of Lamarcus Joyner when he was coming out of Florida State. A good football player who I think is probably going to go mid-to-late second round, third round, somewhere in there."
Holland played with the Oregon Ducks and his father, Robert, had a stint with the 49ers before playing in the CFL.
San Francisco has pick No. 43 overall in the draft, which sits just ahead of where Jeremiah thinks Holland should go.
But with numerous teams needing help in the secondary, the 49ers might want to snag Holland sooner than later.
