No. 1: New England Patriots

This is the spot everyone reading this list was probably expecting to be at No. 1.

The New England Patriots, and more specifically head coach Bill Belichick, are well-known fans of Jimmy Garoppolo. So much so, that it was rumored back before he was traded to San Francisco, Belichik was in love with Garoppolo to the point he was considering benching quarterback Tom Brady for him.

If anything, making Garoppolo Brady’s heir apparent.

The Patriots have undergone a massive overhaul in free agency and signed a number of impacts on both sides of the ball. Although Cam Newton has been re-signed to return for one more year, his cap-hit is so low that the Patriots can keep him as Garoppolo’s backup for 2021. It should also be noted Newton regressed in recent years, only throwing for eight touchdowns versus 10 interceptions last season.

Garoppolo would be a surefire upgrade over Newton without a doubt, and Belichick knows it.

Not to mention, the Patriots have been rumored to have inquired about Jimmy G many times over the last couple of months. The 49ers reportedly refused to engage in trade talks with the Patriots, but I’m sure things would change if the Niners felt they had a shot at trading up in the 2021 NFL Draft and securing the talents of a player like, oh, Ohio State’s Justin Fields.

The reality is Garoppolo is probably going to be sticking around for at least one more year, but it’s still fun to look at the teams who may be interested in acquiring the quarterback.

Who knows? One of these teams may come knocking any day now.
