No. 2: Chicago Bears

This spot makes almost too much sense.

Not only does Jimmy Garoppolo get to go back to his home state of Illinois, but he gets to connect with a sharp-minded offensive head coach in Matt Nagy while inheriting a solid roster built similarly to the one Garoppolo currently spearheads with the 49ers.

The Bears don’t seem to have much of a plan for the future at quarterback at the moment, which was made abundantly clear with their signing of Andy Dalton to compete with Nick Foles to start. While Chicago fans were anxiously hoping Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson could be acquired, those discussions fell through. That led to Dalton.

Talk about a sideways move.

I don’t hate Dalton, but is he that much of an upgrade over Mitchell Trubisky, the Bears’ top draft pick from 2017?

It’s indisputable Garoppolo would instantly make this team much better, so a trade for him would make sense if they’re actually serious about wanting to make a real run at a Super Bowl. The best part would be that Dalton is only making about $12 million, which in this day and age is backup quarterback money, so they could probably swing it without destroying their cap situation.

The relationship between Nagy and Kyle Shanahan would also probably be enough to expedite a trade like this. I think this would make sense for everyone involved and would free up some much-needed cap space for the 49ers while also sending Jimmy G home.
