SF 49ers: Post-free agency 53-man roster projection
SF 49ers Tight Ends (4)
George Kittle
Ross Dwelley
Charlie Woerner
2021 Rookie
So long as George Kittle is around, the SF 49ers tight end room is going to be in good shape.
It could certainly be in great shape if San Francisco could find another dynamic player at the position to pair with Kittle, something the team thought it was doing last season with Jordan Reed, which is what makes someone like Florida tight end Kyle Pitts such an intriguing option at No. 12 overall if Pitts happens to fall that far.
Either way, I’d fully expect both Ross Dwelley and Charlie Woerner to be around for next season, although where they fall on the depth chart will depend on who that rookie is.
If it’s Pitts, he’ll be TE2 behind Kittle; if it’s a day two or three pick, or even an undrafted guy, then he’ll more than likely need time to develop as the fourth tight end on the depth chart.
While the dynamism a two-headed monster like Kittle and Pitts would provide would be incredible, the SF 49ers likely don’t see that as a major need, although Kittle’s recent health might worry the front office a little bit in terms of not having a major dropoff when their All-Pro is out.
