49ers NFL Draft Target Rd. 6: Malcolm Koonce, Buffalo

With his size of 6-foot-3, 250 pounds, Buffalo’s Malcolm Koonce may be a bit undersized at the pro level, but his bend on the edge and his ability to dip under offensive linemen without losing speed is exceptional. He also has very good length for his size, and he uses that length to create separation and leverage as a pass-rusher.

In run support, his ability to anchor a spot and not be moved is solid. An underrated part of his game is his ability to diagnose plays and shift out into pass coverage. His wingspan helps to close passing windows and his pursuit is relentless.

In his final 17 games over the last two seasons with the Bulls, Koonce had 13 total sacks and 17.5 total tackles for loss.

At the very least, he could be a late-round find with a solid edge-rush ability and could rotate into the 49ers’ defensive lineup in obvious pass-rush situations.
