49ers Draft Target No. 4: T.J. Vasher, Texas Tech

The failed reach for linebacker Reuben Foster back in 2017 might have convinced San Francisco not to take fliers on players with character concerns and red flags.

But that was a Round 1 selection. Going after someone with such concerns in Rounds 6 or 7 is another story.

Texas Tech wide receiver T.J. Vasher is one such player who has some of those red flags that could scare teams away on draft day. There are reported concerns about his work ethic, and those have been deterrents for Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch before.

Still, Vasher’s massive 6-foot-6 and 215-pound frame could be simply too hard to completely wipe off the big board.

Vasher’s long arms and serious hops make him an ideal target for the red zone where Shanahan’s offenses have historically struggled. Plus, it’s not hard to see why a player of Vasher’s build can help Shanahan continue to implement his “positionless” football while taking advantage of the true mismatch capabilities a player like Vasher could offer.

Especially if he falls into Round 7.
