SF 49ers Round 4 cornerback: Tre Brown, Oklahoma

While finding a starter on the outside is the biggest need to fill, the other thing to consider with the later rounds is that the team could perhaps find a player to provide depth at the nickel back position.

Tre Brown played well for the Sooners in 2020, and he’s put himself into middle round consideration off the back of it.

At 5-foot-10 and 186 pounds, Brown isn’t big enough to play on the outside in the NFL. But he showed teams what he can do in the slot, with three interceptions and and six pass deflections for the 2020 season.

Brown has shown glimpses of blitzing potential, with a sophomore year that boasted two sacks and six tackles for loss. He hasn’t been able to replicate this in his junior or senior season, but the potential is there.

What’s most impressive is his ability to make plays. In addition to this year, he had a combined 23 deflections in his 2018 and 2019 seasons. He puts himself into position to make plays.

For slot corner depth, the Niners could do a lot worse than Brown.
