No. 7 49ers Prospect to Avoid: EDGE Hamilcar Rashed Jr.

Again, another edge-rushing prospect with some serious question marks heading towards the NFL Draft.

In the case of Oregon State EDGE Hamilcar Rashed Jr., it’s the dramatic drop-off in production from 2019 into 2020. Had Rashed declared for the draft after his 2019 campaign, he likely would have been a bona fide Round 2 selection with the possibility of slipping into the back end of the first round.

That’s what happens after recording an impressive 14-sack campaign.

As far as Rashed’s 2020 sack totals? Well, that’s a zero despite playing in seven games. His tackles for a loss also dropped from 22.5 in 2019 to just two in 2020.

True, Rashed does have the flexibility to play at multiple spots along the defensive line and could be used as a versatile chess piece within the 49ers defense. But for a player with just one breakout season under his belt and the Niners’ need to cash in on a regularly productive pass-rusher with a bona fide role, Rashed is simply someone San Francisco can say “no” to without worrying too much about it.
