2021 NFL Draft: Chargers select offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw, Virginia Tech

The LA Chargers have to get stronger along their offensive line in 2021, particularly with the need to protect second-year quarterback Justin Herbert.

Like Joe Burrow, Herbert was under all kinds of duress his rookie season, and one of the quickest ways to thwart a young quarterback’s development is to not protect him.

Fortunately, the 2021 draft is awfully deep with O-linemen, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see the Chargers use at least two of their first three picks to beef up this unit.

Few options would be better at this point than Virginia Tech offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw.

Darrisaw is a pure people-mover and is excellent in pass protection. Pass-rushers trying to get through him en route to Herbert will have a difficult time, and the Chargers should be able to insert Darrisaw into the day-one lineup.
