Offensive Tackle. Tigers . Austin Deculus. 156. player. 817.

Round 5, Pick No. 156 Overall: SF 49ers select offensive tackle Austin Deculus, LSU

The Niners still need additional offensive line help even if Trent Williams winds up sticking around into 2021 and beyond. After all, there was a key lack of starting-caliber depth to back him and right tackle Mike McGlinchey up last season, and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to find and groom potential long-term replacements for either player.

Remember, this year’s NFL Draft is awfully deep with offensive linemen. And in other years, LSU offensive tackle Austin Deculus could be a fringe second-round pick.

The 6-foot-7, 322-pound prospect was a three-year starter for the Tigers and should be well-versed in a zone-style rushing attack. While his lateral movement skills are somewhat hindered by his massive size, Deculus is more than adept at setting an anchor in pass protection. And when he reaches his blocks in run support, it’s typically over for that particular defender.

Deculus might have a long road to go in order to become a starting left tackle. But he’d at least be capable of backing up the position or filling in on the right side of the O-line right away.
