No. 2: Michael Davis, Los Angeles Chargers

The SF 49ers would certainly have to manipulate the cap some, but adding a player like LA Chargers cornerback Michael Davis, at his age and productivity level, could well be worth it. At 26 years, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound cornerback is a potential scheme fit in the Niners’ Cover 3, provided DeMeco Ryans does not change it.

Davis is a young, veteran corner who took huge leaps and became a starter in 2019. Over the past two seasons, he has managed 103 tackles, and five interceptions.

His length and speed could serve him well if he moved to the NFC West, with potential matchups with the likes of the Seattle Seahawks’ D.K. Metcalf and the Arizona Cardinals’ DeAndre Hopkins to challenge his skill set.

Davis’ asking price in free agency could be steep, perhaps upwards of $6 million or more.

However, if John Lynch and Co. decide to infuse a talented veteran to their defensive secondary in free agency, Davis could be just the player they are looking for.
