SF 49ers roster: Targeting one free agent for each position in 2021

SF 49ers Running Back: Anthony Sherman
A fullback is still a kind of running back.
The Niners are going to lose halfbacks Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon to free agency this offseason, but they’ll still have Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., JaMycal Hasty and Austin Walter to round out the depth chart.
The real problem with San Francisco’s backfield, though, is the likely loss of fullback Kyle Juszczyk to free agency. It’s highly unlikely the SF 49ers can afford to pay him what he will command this offseason, meaning they’ll either have to do some roster jockeying, transition an on-roster player into Juszczyk’s stead, hope for a drafted rookie to fill the void or go after another option on the free-agent market.
With the Chiefs relying less on their run game, fullback Anthony Sherman has been less a commodity and doesn’t figure to re-sign with Kansas City this offseason.
Sherman, 32 years old, is a downgrade from Juszczyk. Be he does have a Pro Bowl under his belt and has served as both a rushing and receiving option in the past.
On the cheap, Kyle Shanahan could still find a way to implement a key offensive need, a lead blocker.
