SF 49ers Linebacker: Kevin Minter

If there’s one position the SF 49ers don’t need to address, it’s at linebacker. At least not with Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw in the fray.

Azeez Al-Shaair, a backup linebacker, also made significant strides forward in 2020, too.

All that said, the Niners could afford some veteran leadership on both sides of the ball, and plucking Super Bowl champions is never a bad move to provide that kind of experience even if San Francisco has some Super Bowl veterans of its own.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers don’t have much of a need for 30-year-old veteran linebacker Kevin Minter, and his advanced age and current role as a backup would mean he’d come cheap. Yet he was also an integral part of an elite Bucs defense that shut down Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl LIV.

If signed by the SF 49ers, Minter would likely be a second-string option at best, more frequently playing on special teams and spelling Warner and Greenlaw.

Still, that role would have value in 2021.
