Predicting landing spots for SF 49ers top 5 free agents in 2021

No. 2: Cornerback Jason Verrett
If it weren’t for Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith, cornerback Jason Verrett should have been a top contender for the NFL’s 2020 Comeback Player of the Year award.
Verrett’s campaign last year was special, as he looked every much the part of the 2015 Pro Bowler he once was with the San Diego Chargers. Having missed all but six regular-season games between 2016 and 2019, the SF 49ers could have easily moved on from Verrett last offseason, instead electing to re-sign him for another prove-it kind of year.
That decision paid off nicely, and Verrett has repeatedly expressed his gratitude to the organization for continuing to believe in him.
Also turning 30 years old before the start of this upcoming season, re-signing Verrett is a double-edge sword. On one hand, the Niners will need veteran corners in 2021 and saw what kind of player Verrett can be when he’s fully healthy.
But Verrett’s still-lengthy injury history is a massive concern, too.
That last fact could drive down the price, though, which actually works in San Francisco’s favor. Considering the team’s needs, he’d be a wise re-sign.
