SF 49ers: Redrafting the entire 2020 NFL Draft class
By Peter Panacy
Round 6, Pick No. 190 Overall (from Eagles): Safety Jordan Fuller, Ohio State
Original Pick: TE Charlie Woerner (No. 190 Overall)
The SF 49ers used Marquise Goodwin to trade up in Round 6 with the Eagles to grab tight end Charlie Woerner at No. 190 after originally owning the No. 210 overall pick.
That move stays steady here, but Woerner won’t be the selection. Looking back at his rookie year, Woerner was scantly used anyway and remains little more than a developmental prospect.
Considering those additional secondary needs, including safety, the Niners realize they need to find depth behind their two starters, Jimmie Ward and Jaquiski Tartt, and a potential long-term replacement for the latter, who’ll enter free agency this offseason after landing yet again on injured reserve.
One of the better performers from the late rounds in last year’s draft was Ohio State safety Jordan Fuller, who eventually was selected by the LA Rams at No. 199 overall.
Appearing in 12 games his rookie season, starting all of them, Fuller recorded 60 tackles, five pass breakups and three interceptions.
Adding him in this scenario would guard against Tartt’s likely departure, thereby setting up San Francisco’s defense nicely while robbing an NFC West rival.
