SF 49ers: 5 quarterbacks fans should cross off 2021 ‘wish’ list

It might be weird to think Dallas Cowboys veteran quarterback Andy Dalton could be in the mix for an SF 49ers quarterbacking role in 2021.
But there’s this:
Rest of this will be worked out over the offseason. We’ll see if the 49ers draft a QB to fill out the room or sign someone like Andy Dalton so that they have veteran insurance behind Garoppolo, the presumable starter.

Oh.
The Athletic’s David Lombardi does have a small point. Dalton would have been an upgrade over the Niners’ two backup options last season, Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard.
Yet that doesn’t mean San Francisco should consider Dalton as a viable option, especially as a starting option, for the same reasons why Cam Newton shouldn’t be considered. While there could be a small argument about targeting Dalton as a veteran backup, that scenario would only apply if the SF 49ers parted ways with Jimmy Garoppolo and then went with a rookie, thereby needing a veteran as a mentor.
Even that’s a stretch, though.
