SF 49ers free agency: 5 offensive linemen to target in 2021
By Peter Panacy
No. 2: Center/Guard Ethan Pocic, Seattle Seahawks
There’s likely going to be a cold war of sorts between San Francisco and its NFC West rivals, the Seattle Seahawks, and there have been more than a handful of players to go back and forth between the two teams.
In recent years, it probably doesn’t make much sense to purge from what’s been a lackluster Seahawks offensive line. But center Ethan Pocic was reliable enough over the course of his 14 starts in 2020, earning a Pro Football Focus overall grade of 62.4, which is respectable enough for consideration on the free-agent market but wouldn’t result in him being an overpriced commodity.
At 25 years old, Pocic is still young enough to hope for some continued development. And while the SF 49ers likely want Daniel Brunskill back in his more-natural right guard spot in 2021, Pocic could serve as a top-rate competitor to start or, at the very least, a solid backup for any of the three interior spots.
And Pocic should be viewed as an upgrade over reserve interior lineman, Tom Compton, too.
With depth a notable concern for the Niners along their O-line, adding Pocic would at least provide some starting-caliber reserve options for a group in need of them.
