NY Jets

If we’re being honest, this is exactly where Richard Sherman likely ends up in NFL free agency: the NY Jets. It makes all but too much sense.

With former SF 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh taking over as head coach, who better a player to make one of New York’s first big free-agent signings other than Sherman. Their relationship is well documented, with Sherman earlier this week even commenting on the Houston Texans’ Deshaun Watson controversy, stating that Watson should join Saleh in New York.

The Jets have tons of cap space, mostly because they’re not paying many big players, which may explain why they had such a horrendous couple of years under former head coach Adam Gase. Their secondary unit is abysmal, so adding a player like Sherman would be an instant upgrade. Sherman would also act as a mentor for any corners the team signs or drafts in the 2021 offseason.

This team is truly awful, though, and would require Sherman plays out the remaining years of his career on a team that is nowhere close to making the playoffs, let alone winning a Super Bowl.

This isn’t necessarily a glamourous destination for Sherman, football-wise. But it is New York, and this team may be on the rise with Saleh now at the helm.

There is no doubt Saleh has already spoken to Sherman to convince him to join him in NYC for the 2021 season and beyond.  Who knows? Saleh may even try and convince Sherman to join him as a defensive coach at the end of his career.
