Power ranking all 9 SF 49ers quarterbacks in team playoff history
By Peter Panacy
No. 1: Joe Montana
SF 49ers Playoff Win-Loss Record: 16-7
It was a bit of a toss-up to consider Steve Young at No. 1 on this list, especially considering what he did in the Super Bowl.
But Young always had those tough times on the road against the Packers, whereas the top player on this SF 49ers playoff-quarterback list was about as no-brainer a pick as it gets.

The 16-7 win-loss record is impressive enough in the postseason. And even though Hall of Famer Joe Montana had his share of tough road losses in the playoffs, fans don’t remember those early exits.
No, they recall games like the 1982 NFC Championship against the Dallas Cowboys, Super Bowl XXIV when the Niners blew out the Denver Broncos 55-10 or Super Bowl XXIII when Montana engineered “The Drive,” largely viewed as the best playoff two-minute drill in NFL history.
Montana might have had some gaffes in regular playoff games. But his 11 touchdowns against zero interceptions with a career-127.8 passer rating in Super Bowl games is absolutely unheard of.
It’s not likely we’ll see another quarterback pull off feats like that on multiple trips ever again.
