No. 2: Steve Young

SF 49ers Playoff Win-Loss Record: 14-8

There’s an argument Hall of Famer Steve Young should be at No. 1 on this list. After all, Young’s six touchdowns thrown in Super Bowl XXIX in the 49-26 blowout of the San Diego Chargers set a record at the time.

And even with the high-octane passing offenses gracing today’s NFL, it’ll be rare to see those kinds of performances again.

Young was also responsible for delivering the perfect pass to Terrell Owens in the 1999 Wild Card game against the Packers, which became known as “The Catch II” and emulated another crucial last-second play from an SF 49ers quarterback to a legendary wide receiver.

But Young had some down moments, including what appeared to be regular road losses in the postseason, particularly against teams like Green Bay where the quarterback often struggled.

Still, nearly any team in the league would be proud to call Young a top-performing playoff quarterback in franchise history.

He’s still not No. 1 for San Francisco, though.
