No. 4: LA Chargers

Not surprisingly, Pro Football Focus also graded out the LA Chargers’ offensive line as the worst in the league last season.

The Chargers make for another candidate to potentially purge Trent Williams away from the SF 49ers, both in terms of need, roster makeup and available cap space. Getting the latter out of the way, Los Angeles has more than enough room with a projected $29.1 million in available space.

That’s made easier with the fact the Chargers already have an up-and-coming quarterback, Justin Herbert, on his rookie deal. He won’t be cashing in on a lucrative contract anytime soon, so LA might want to get in a position where it can win now with strengths elsewhere on the roster.

On top of that, the Chargers’ starting left tackle last year, Sam Tevi, is a free agent this offseason. Even if he was going to be on LA’s roster in 2021, the team could still stand for an upgrade.

And few would be better than Williams.

Much of it will depend on the new head-coaching regime in Los Angeles. But Williams is the caliber of player who can mesh with any system.

Protecting Herbert, the Chargers’ newest top asset, also has to be high atop their offseason wish list.
