SF 49ers Free-Agent ‘Weak Bubble’

Things get a bit trickier when evaluating the weaker re-sign bubble.

Shortages and potential large-scale turnover in the secondary could warrant the retention of veteran defensive backs like Jaquiski Tartt and Jamar Taylor, who both finished the year on injured reserve. That could lower the price tag, but one figures the SF 49ers would want to get younger and cheaper there anyway.

Tight end Jordan Reed, who was a relatively high-profile free-agent signing before the regular season, was active in Week 17 but didn’t see a snap, perhaps suggesting his time with the Niners has come to a close.

Quarterback Josh Rosen could be an experiment, depending on what San Francisco elects to do with Mullens and fellow backup C.J. Beathard. The former No. 10 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft flamed out quickly with the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins, but it wouldn’t be too shocking if the SF 49ers elect to keep Rosen into training camp next year at the very least.
