SF 49ers Re-Sign Priority No. 3: Cornerback Jason Verrett

Sticking on the cornerback theme, San Francisco received exceptional play from oft-injured cornerback Jason Verrett, who enjoyed a bounce-back campaign in 2020 after appearing in only six regular-season games between 2016 and 2019, which included a mere two snaps for the SF 49ers in 2019.

Verrett, who stuck around with the Niners on a one-year, $887,500 deal this season, credited the organization with his bounce-back season and thanked them for giving him an added chance, telling NBC Sports Bay Area:

"Coming in here and seeing how they turned things around for me physically and mentally, it’s kind of hard to not want to come back. It’s kind of hard not to want to see if we can work things out just because it’s a class act organization. They’ve done a hell of a job with me through my time last year and this year. It’s going to be a tough decision for sure."

Verrett’s 2020 valuation was at over $10 million, and he’d be wise to ask for that heading into 2021, especially coming off what could be defined as a career-best year.

Perhaps San Francisco can counter at a lower price, tabbing a relatively deep NFL Draft class in 2021 at the position and Verrett’s still-concerning injury history.
