SF 49ers Option No. 2: The Franchise — Dak Prescott (5%)

The Dallas Cowboys should have avoided using the franchise tag on quarterback Dak Prescott. While Dallas has been generally bad this season, most of those woes came on the defensive side of the ball.

Prescott’s serious ankle injury suffered earlier this season only reinforced the idea a franchise-type quarterback is needed to overcome any other shortcomings elsewhere on the roster.

Dallas is facing its own cap issues in 2021, meaning Prescott won’t be a cheap re-sign. But it seems less than likely owner Jerry Jones would even fathom the idea of letting him walk in free agency.

If he does, however, the SF 49ers would sure like to pounce if they could.

And if they can afford him, too.
