No. 4: SF 49ers Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo

Remember, St. Nick looks all the way back over the full year to determine which boys and girls have been good or bad. If it was just 2019, it would be safe to assume Santa felt quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was a good boy.

After all, Jimmy G gifted the Niners 3,978 passing yards, which ended up being fourth best on the franchise’s single-season record list. That was an awfully nice Christmas present.

But the bad streak hit off during Garoppolo’s fourth-quarter collapse in Super Bowl LIV, and then it didn’t exactly rectify itself when the quarterback was in and out of the lineup for the first half of 2020 before finally succumbing to the high-ankle sprain that all but derailed the rest of his season.

Again, injuries aren’t a part of this “bad” list. Yet it’s hard to overlook what Jimmy G received from San Francisco this season — a gift of $26.6 million — to which the return gift has been a mere six games played and only par-level play when he’s been on the field.

It would have been nice if Garoppolo was dynamic when he was available.
