No. 2: SF 49ers Offensive Lineman Justin Skule

It’s not totally his fault. After all, injuries and the ever-increasing reserve/COVID-19 list forced second-year swing tackle Justin Skule into doing something he’d never done before, either at the college or pro levels.

Start a game at guard.

But that was the necessity of the situation, as Skule got the start instead of unavailable players, Tom Compton and Colton McKivitz, at right guard.

The results weren’t overly pretty either, as the SF 49ers had some troubles running the ball to the right side of their formation, and Skule had plenty of his own miscues in pass protection alongside right tackle Mike McGlinchey.

Skule gave up at least four pressures on quarterback Nick Mullens, and one of Dallas’ two sacks should be credited on Skule, too.

While he’s a questionable option for a backup tackle, it’s pretty clear Skule filling in at guard isn’t exactly something the Niners want to continue exploring.
