No. 3: SF 49ers EDGE Kerry Hyder

Unlike some of the other players on this list, veteran EDGE Kerry Hyder has been one of the better storylines the SF 49ers have enjoyed. After bouncing around the league over his career and serving as little more than a depth defensive lineman, which was initially his intended use with the Niners, Hyder now leads the team with 7.5 sacks and is just half a sack away from his career-high total of eight set back with the Detroit Lions in 2016.

Getting beyond that number will be key for Hyder down the stretch, particularly against a Cowboys offense that has allowed 34 sacks on the season — ninth most in the NFL.

Why this matters, aside from just the impact on the game, is Hyder is also scheduled to become a free agent this offseason. Coming off a career-best year, at least in terms of sack production, would go a long way in determining his 2021 contract value.

Whether that be with San Francisco or somewhere else.

And considering the SF 49ers’ own D-line depth questions heading into next season, continued strong performances from Hyder could go a long way in increasing his own value to the team between now and the start of next season.
