SF 49ers Target No. 1: Michael Davis, Los Angeles Chargers
The first two suggestions on this list are essentially going to be reclamation projects. The last, LA Chargers cornerback Michael Davis, could instead be seen as an up-and-coming player entering his prime.

His fourth season at the pro level has been solid with Davis, a 2017 undrafted free agent, starting 11 games out of a possible 12 while registering 49 tackles, eight passes defended, two interceptions and one defensive touchdown scored. All this has led to him receiving a commendable 69.6 overall Pro Football Focus grade with opposing quarterbacks posting a 77.2 passer rating when targeting him.
And at 25 years old, it’s pretty apparent the arrow on Davis is pointing upward.
As far as size goes, Davis’ 6-foot-2, 196-pound frame fits the bill. The Chargers, like both the Seahawks and Jaguars, employ that same zone-style Cover 3 defense the SF 49ers have under coordinator Robert Saleh, who was an understudy of LA’s defensive coordinator, Gus Bradley, in both Seattle and Jacksonville.
If anything, Davis should be one of the Niners’ top free-agent targets this offseason, both in terms of immediate impact and long-term abilities for a San Francisco defense that could see a lot of turnover heading into next season outside of Richard Sherman likely departing.
