SF 49ers Target No. 3: Quinton Dunbar, Seattle Seahawks

San Francisco won’t shy away from going after a cornerback who possesses similar physical traits as Richard Sherman and has played in a similar defensive scheme.

Such would be the case for Quinton Dunbar of the Seattle Seahawks, who looks the part of a Sherman-like corner at 6-foot-2 and 202 pounds.

Dunbar was supposed to be a perfect fit for Seattle in 2019, at least according to this Pro Football Focus breakdown, which tabbed the 28 year old’s frame as an ideal match between physical abilities and scheme. Yet Dunbar hasn’t exactly benefited his first season with the Seahawks, posting a lowly 47.7 PFF grade on the year.

So, why would the SF 49ers be interested?

The lowish performance this season could significantly drop Dunbar’s asking price, which is a bonus right there. Plus, one has to figure Dunbar’s time in Seattle’s Cover 3 zone-style defense gives him the necessary experience to improve in a similar system the following year. And one has to note Dunbar only became a full-time starter for Washington in 2019, and he’s still honing his abilities.

Plus, with a hopefully revamped pass rush in 2021, Dunbar’s would-be life with the Niners should be significantly better than it was with a lowly Seattle defense last season where he wasn’t the only lackluster performer.
