No. 2: SF 49ers must force Bills to use their receiving depth

Buffalo has a very solid receiving corps, but it’s pretty top-heavy.

Stefon Diggs is the clear-cut alpha player here, and that’s no surprise. But the bigger surprise is the play from veteran slot receiver Cole Beasley, who is on pace to set career-highs with 71 receptions for 667 yards so far this season as a primary go-to target when Diggs isn’t able to get open.

And the latter hasn’t been often.

Yet there is some questionable depth behind those two, particularly looking at pass-catchers John Brown and Gabriel Davis who remain in the 300-yard range over 11 games played apiece.

San Francisco’s defense needs to make those two the focus of Josh Allen’s passing efforts.

OK, how?

Doubling Diggs is going to be a priority, particularly putting the speedy defensive back, Tarvarius Moore, over the top with either boundary cornerback, Richard Sherman or Jason Verrett, playing underneath.

Meanwhile, the SF 49ers have to hope fellow defensive back Jimmie Ward has a repeat performance from Week 12 against Beasley.
