No. 3: Jimmie Ward forces a Jared Goff fumble, SF 49ers recover

Safety Jimmie Ward was all over the place during Sunday’s game, having his best outing of the season while recording five combined tackles and one pass defended.

But it was his two forced fumbles that stood out the most, first jarring the ball loose from Rams running back Malcolm Brown in the first quarter, then knocking the ball out of Jared Goff’s hands on a scrambling attempt just before halftime:

Kerry Hyder managed to recover the loose ball, adding to his own impressive performance from the game.

San Francisco missed a chance to tack on three points, failing to convert on a 50-yard field-goal try after securing the takeaway. While that stunk to an extent, one should point out the LA Rams were driving in SF 49ers territory and were going to get the ball back to start the third quarter.

Ward thwarting that would-be Los Angeles scoring attempt proved to be a huge boost for the Niners’ victory chances.
