SF 49ers Free-Agent Target No. 4: CB Troy Hill

The Niners could easily lose their starting nickel corner this offseason, K’Waun Williams, particularly because he’s easily ranked as one of the best at his position despite a season in which he’s dealt with numerous injuries.

Those setbacks could be reason enough why San Francisco elects to move on from Williams this offseason.

But the lack of on-roster cornerbacks heading into 2021 could create some problems within the secondary. Tack on the reality many young defensive backs struggle transitioning from the college ranks to the pros, and one can see why the SF 49ers prefer to grab someone with a little more veteran experience.

The Los Angeles Rams’ Troy Hill makes a lot of sense here. Especially if he inks a deal in the range between $2 million and $3 million per year.

Hill, 29 years old, knows the NFC West well enough after spending the last five seasons with the Rams. And he’s made his mark this season with 50 tackles, five passes defended and one interception, too.

More importantly, he’s been healthy over the bulk of his career and should be available — something Williams hasn’t been able to boast this season.
