SF 49ers Tight End

B+. . . . TIGHT END

Grading San Francisco’s tight end group is an awfully tough proposition, given George Kittle is likely to miss the remainder of 2020 with a foot injury.

Having played six games through the first nine weeks, however, it’s pretty clear Kittle was going to have yet another All-Pro-like campaign when considering he still leads the team with 37 receptions and 474 receiving yards despite already missing three of those contests. Extrapolated out over a full 16-game regular season, Kittle would have been on pace to net 1,264 yards this season.

That won’t happen, though.

No. 2 tight end Jordan Reed was a nice storyline over the first two-plus weeks, recording two touchdowns after missing all of 2019 with injuries. But like so many other offensive contributors, injuries have cut into his abilities to impact the field.

That’s put much more emphasis on No. 3 tight end Ross Dwelley, who’ll at least have a chance to shine over the second half of the season with Reed still banged up and Kittle likely out for the remaining seven contests.

So far, though, San Francisco’s tight ends have been prolific enough, if not fully healthy, and the general impact has been felt when needed.
