No. 2: The SF 49ers have utilized undrafted free-agent running backs like none other, JaMycal Hasty is just another example

Last season the SF 49ers used a plethora of running backs, most of them undrafted free agents. Fast forward to right now and it’s still the same story, but with new names.

This time, rookie UDFA running back JaMycal Hasty is getting his shot and, well… he isn’t being hasty about it.

Hasty has always had a “team-first” mentality. Back in April just days before the draft, he interviewed with Fox 44 News’ Mandy Knight and talked about his favorite moment at Baylor:

"At the team workouts, just seeing how driven, motivated and how hard everybody was working. Just seeing how much time was put into their game and their craft, they’re getting better themselves, but it’s also making us better as a team."

With a team-first mentality, Hasty finally got his chance to be a starter and scored his first career NFL touchdown in Week 8 against Seattle.

With the backfield all sitting in the doctor’s office, Hasty’s presence over the next eight weeks will be valuable. If he can stay healthy, he should get an abundance of reps and could see lots of playing time in important games.

Hasty will hopefully get a contract offer at the end of the season. His progress from UDFA, to practice roster, to being a starter is a nice early success story for the SF 49ers.
