SF 49ers Quarterback Target No. 2: Paxton Lynch

OK, another reclamation project.

Remember the buzz about former Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch in the 2016 NFL Draft and how he eventually flamed out with the Denver Broncos after being selected in Round 1 that year?

Perhaps Denver has some difficulty drafting and developing quarterbacks, but there were plenty of scouts and general managers who felt awfully good about Lynch being a bona fide stud at the NFL level.

While he’ll likely never get anywhere close to reclaiming his status as an up-and-comer, it’s important to note Lynch is still just 26 years old and could be worth looking at as a low-end flier to round out the SF 49ers quarterbacking depth chart.

Recalling some of his college hype, Lynch possessed adequate zip on his throws and had some touch accuracy, which had been missing from Jimmy Garoppolo’s arsenal for much of this season.

True, Lynch’s accuracy on improv throws wasn’t great. But when given easy reads, he was generally on target with very little trouble.

Sounds a lot like what the Niners have engineered for their quarterbacks in recent years, right?

Again, Lynch isn’t a high-profile target. Just someone whose skills might be worth exploring to see if there’s anything left worth developing.
