SF 49ers Hero No. 3: Fullback Kyle Juszczyk

Technically, fullback Kyle Juszczyk is well-known enough a player among SF 49ers circles, and Kyle Shanahan made it a point to tell reporters after the game Juszczyk is “the best fullback in the game.”

Well, yes.

Juszczyk’s highlight play will be his 4-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. That marked the fullback’s second rushing score of the season, but it might be somewhat surprising that was only his third rushing touchdown in his perennial Pro Bowl career.

But that’s not exactly why Juszczyk is on this list.

Instead, Juszczyk put on a clinic with his blocking and was a key reason why San Francisco averaged 5.3 rush yards per carry and 197 net rush yards, including this block that allowed Jeff Wilson to get to the edge and score his third touchdown of the game:

Juszczyk also didn’t shy away from being a receiving target for Jimmy Garoppolo, hauling in this 18-yard pass:

Juszczyk’s performance in Week 7 prompted the CBS Sports’ broadcasting tandem of Jim Nantz and Tony Romo to christen the day, “National Fullbacks Day.”

Based on Juszczyk’s efforts, it sounds like a pretty good idea.
